TIME
FLIES... It's hard to believe that over a month has flown by since last I
published. DOH! Sorry. It's been a busy past two months. We've had gigs all over
the nation. Flying off to New York and Colorado, plus some festivals and conventions
at home. I guess the thing that did me in was St. Patrick's Day. I had big plans
to publish a "special edition" of the newsletter, and I let it overwhelm
me. Two features is a enough for such a labor of love. If nothing else, it does
better at getting out on a regular basis. Any
case, I'm back with a couple great artists that are sligthly off the beaten track
of playing traditional Celtic music (meaning they can, but don't). But the music
is fantastic. And after all, isn't that what really matters? Music that inspires
and gives you a few minutes of entertainment. COMPILATION
CD -- ARTISTS WANTED If you are a Celtic musician and would like some free
promotion of your music, please consider donating a track to my upcoming compilation
CDs. To find out more, mailto:celticcompilation@bardscrier.com CHANGE
TO HTML? After dileberation and a few failed attempts at the HTML newsletter,
I'm gonna keep it as text...for now. I'll keep ye informed IF I ever decide to
change. Yeah, I know, some may think it's backward, but hey, it's quick to scan
straight to the point. TOLKIEN
MUSIC PLUG Have you enjoyed the Brobdingnagian Bards song "Tolkien (The
Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)"? Well, I am VERY pleased to announce that
the CD is now done. We've pre-released it exclusively to MP3.com. The final version
will be officially released later this summer as we prepare for our CD release
of the album. If you're interested in finding out more, please consider buying
a copy of the album and/or joining our Nagian
Street Team. Thanks! _____________________________________SPONSOR__________

I had no clue who Gerry O'Beirne was when I first saw him perform
with Andy M. Stewart a year ago. All I remember was he performed a song called
"Angel, Angel" that was fantastic! And then before and after the show,
I realized he was a really great guy to talk to. Very friendly. A few months later,
I saw he had helped produce at least one Clandestine album. I thought that was
pretty cool. But
I got his album that evening and quickly fell in love with his music. Tough time
deciding what to feature. Those his bio mentions his love of Bob Dylan and The
Beatles, his vocals like on "The Shades of Gloria" remind me more of
Simon & Garfunkle. But
"Off the Rocks at Clahane" has a special touch to it that I had to feature
that song. Exquisite instrumental piece on the steel guitar. I took a quick glimpse
to see that Clahane is located in Southern Ireland in County Kerry. But the song
takes me to the seaside overlooking a bay, and filled with an amazing sense of
peace. Right
now, Gerry is touring with Andy M. Stewart and in a couple months, you'll be able
to see him perform with The Willow Band featuring E.J. Jones of Clandestine fame.
Check the calendar on his website to find out where he'll be next.
"The Visit" was Loreena McKennit's 1992 breakthrough
album that combines a variety of Celtic styles. It features such magical
pieces as "Bonny Portmore" and "Lady of Shalott". But it opens
up with a wonderful song for Halloween, "All Souls Night".

current 15-year Californian who grew up in Scotland (Edinburgh) & Texas
(spit-in-the-road-you've-never-heard-of), appreciates both mullets &
bagpipes (har har), 32 and holding (FOREVER), twin sister & me grew up
playing music and shifted over to Celtic after hearing Radio Skye as kids.
I play guitar, dulcimer, violin (badly), most brass, keyboards, kazoo (heh).
Now do sequencing on PC. I love world music and Celtic holds a special place
in my heart. I like traditional but especially enjoy Celtic rock!" No,
this is not "The Stolen Child" you might've heard performed by
Loreena McKennitt. This is an original piece written by Paula Lynch and her
friend, Stephanie Polek. It's a outstanding composition. While Paula composes
most of her music with digital sequencing, the piece is absolutely fantastic.
It flows with elegance and beauty like the ebb and tide of an ocean with sounds
of harp and violins. Paula is not most traditional Celtic artist out there,
and that is a huge part of her charm. You can hear her wild personality shine
through in each of her songs and you can certainly hear her strength
in her songwriting.

Celtic Music Website Cantaria
is a library of "bardic" folk songs, mostly from Ireland, Scotland and
England, intended to be an educational tool for propagating the living song tradition
through passing on folk songs (old and new) in a medium where far-flung singers
can share songs as easily as if we were all circled up around a fire. So, come
join us; there is always room for one more singer and always time for one more
song. Cantaria
is unique among lyric web sites because almost every song in our archive has an
accompanying recording of the song being performed. The library currently contains
lyrics for over 225 songs, contributed by a variety of singers, including Andy
Irvine and Andy M Stewart. Cantaria
is the site that inspired me "how" to put together a website with song
lyrics. But quite honestly, my site is FAR Inferior. Cantaria is an killer resource.
I love the fact that you can LISTEN to the songs. I learn by hearing so for me
Cantaria is a gem! _____________________________________SPONSOR__________
