"The Blacksmith" by Slainte

Slainte was formed in 1993, consisting of the most veteran group of musicians in Catalonia. Even some top musicians have been a part of the band.

Slainte means "health" in Irish and Scottish gaelic. And this band gives a healthy dose of music to the Celtic music industry. Over the years, their music has evolved without losing the magic of the acoustic and Atlantic sound that characterizes their style. Their music is centered in the most frenetic dances and beautiful songs of Ireland and Scotland, but it roams into other traditions as well - each flavored with their own original arrangements.

"Star of the County Down" by Celtic Sands

New to the Celtic music scene, Celtic Sands, a trio based out of San Francisco, is already shining. The band not only contains three exceptionally talented musicians, but also a variety of instruments and a lot of improvisation on traditional tunes. Celtic Sands also has original songs that portray the band's edgy and polished characteristics.

Ben Roberts is the fiddle player and also plays the mandolin. Lara Garner performs on harp, piano, whistle, bodhran, recorder and also provides vocals. Gregory Alan Jones plays the guitar, fretless bass, percussion, as well as provides vocals.

"The Northwoods" by Atlantic Wave

Do you like traditional music? Atlantic Wave is your band if you do. They play their music in the traditional styles of Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

The band is composed of two fiddlers, a singer/guitarist and a bodhran/bouzouki player. Their music varies from reels to slow airs and everything in between. What you are guaranteed is a great time listening to their music and enjoying traditional music as it was meant to be played.

"MacLeod's Farewell" by Round the House

For nearly ten years, Round the House has been performing at festivals, ceilis, contra dances and many other events throughout the southwestern United States. They play Irish traditional music in both English and Irish, including many dance tunes. Sometimes their songs are acapella, and other times, a full band backs them. Round the House is considered to be a contradance band, something they draw upon on a few of their sets.

Their 2004 CD was named the Best New Release by Tuscan readers and was featured on the All Songs Considered website for NPR. In addition, Round the House are five-time TAMMIE winners for best traditional/ethnic band in Tuscan. In other words, they are outstanding and certainly worth a listen.
