The
Corrs Celtic
Pop from Ireland The Corrs are now known worldwide for their distinctive sound of merging traditional Irish music, with the pop and dance beats of today, but their success can be traced back to the town of Dundalk, Ireland.
Growing up in a very musical family, Andrea, Caroline, Sharon and Jim Corr learned to appreciate their culture through traditional Irish music and instruments, and experimentation with new ways of playing old music. It wasn't until 1990; however, that the three sisters and brother decided to start a band. The Corrs were met with great success in Ireland, but it wasn't until they coincidentally met up with the American Ambassador who offered them a gig at the 1994 World Cup held in Boston. That performance landed them in front of some high-ranking record execs, and the rest is history.
Soon gathering an American following, The Corrs released their debut CD entitled, "Forgiven, Not Forgotten," which went four times in their home country! Touring with Celine Dion helped to boost their U.S. fan base, and the 1998 release of "Talk on Corners" and the subsequent special edition brought appearances on "The Tonight Show" and "Late Night With Conan O'Brian." They may not have reached the same level of success in America as they have in Ireland, but The Corrs are a household name, especially among Celtic music lovers.
In 2000, the band released their fourth album, "In Blue," which contains one of my all-time favorite songs, "Breathless." Following the necessary CD promotion, The Corrs took a break from the music industry for awhile to regroup, pursue other endeavors and start families. Andrea lends her voice to the "In America" soundtrack, on a song written by Bono and Gavin Friday called, "Time Enough For Tears," while Caroline had a baby. In the past, Andrea Corr has made guest appearances in movies as well, such as "The Commitments" and "Evita."
In 2004, the band came back together for their latest project entitled, "Borrowed Heaven." With each new CD topping the last, The Corrs are bound to be around for quite awhile. And that's a good thing, because we could use more culturally inspired pop on the mainstream radios.
Live
in Dublin (2002)
Recorded live in Dublin near The Corrs family's home
town, this album shows what they hype is all about as U2's Bono and Rolling Stones
guitarist Ron Wood guest perform with them on "When the Stars Go Blue"
and Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing". The CD features all their greats and
is so much more than just the success of "Breathless" that introduced
The Corrs to the world.
In
Blue (2000)
The album that put The Corrs on the charts and proved that
they are more than just a bunch of pretty faces. They not only play, but they
sound great doing it. Listen in particular to their up-tempo songs--"Breathless"
and "No More Cry."
Forgiven,
Not Forgiven (1995)
The debut album by The Corrs with one foot in traditional
Irish music and the other in smooth, sophisticated pop featuring beautiful love
songs like "Runaway", plus, more traditional material like "Erin
Shore".
