What?! You don't own Pubcrawler's new CD "Captured Live"?! Are
you crazy? Go out and get it... right now... don't wait.
I first met Pubcrawler a few years back when they were performing
at Fado's. A year later, they moved to B.D. Riley's Irish Pub on Sixth
Street and started a residency there. I lost count how many years
they've been at B.D. Riley's, but every Friday night, you can go down
to Sixth Street and listen to some great Irish pub music by Austin's
#1 Pub Band--Pubcrawler. And best of all, they finally made a CD.
It was recorded live at B.D. Riley's.
Okay, I admit I was a little hesitant about getting the album.
Pubcrawler is not a very traditional Irish music group. So I went to
their website and listened to a few of their free MP3s. The music
was a lot of fun, so I bought the CD. I then found out the individual
songs are not nearly as enjoyable as experiencing the entire
album.
Neville Stewart, the token Irishman plays bass, bodhran and sings
backup. Wes Pasco plays guitar and sings lead. Wayne Duncan
rocks away with some great Country-style percussion on drums.
And Sean Orr kicks arse on fiddle. While their music may not
sound totally traditional, they've created something outstanding
that combines the best traditional Irish music with contemporary
pub rock music.
Though this is a band meant to be heard live, this CD does a
brilliant job capturing that live performance. It's packed full of
energy and excitement. Often after you hear live music, you want to
run out and buy the CD. Well I did the opposite. I got the CD, and
this week, I'm running down to B.D. Riley's to catch their live show!
So hurry up. Go to the Pubcrawler website and order
you copy of the CD, or get it at Things Celtic before it's too late!
