Moya Brennan
Contemporary Irish Music
Moya Brennan, also known as Maire Brennan, grew up in Donegal with her
very talented family. In fact, she was first known as being in the
band, Clannad with her brothers, sisters and other relatives. Clannad
was and is hugely popular in Ireland and all over the world.
While with Clannad, Brennan won a Grammy, and many of their songs were
included on soundtracks. One of their biggest successes was "Theme From
Harry's Game," in 1982, which did extremely well on the U.K charts.
Sister to the new-age sensation, Enya, Moya Brennan has created a body
of work in her own right over the years. Brennan did a collaboration
album with Bono of U2 and appeared as a guest on many albums with
artists such as Paul Young, Joe Jackson and Paul Brady.
Some of her finer achievements include creating the soundtracks for
movies such as "Last of the Mohicans" and "Robin of Sherwood."
Brennan's latest effort is "Two Horizons," released in 2003, which
serves as a poignant dedication to the Irish harp. The album is
cohesive, and tells one story about the significance of the harp as an
instrument and symbol of Irish society.
Her other albums include, "Whisper to the Wild Water," "Perfect Time,"
"Misty Eyed Adventures," and her first solo-release, "Maire" in 1992.
Moya Brennan is a treat for all who enjoy traditional the experimental
Celtic music. She captures a native essence in her songs, that breaks
down the barriers between new-age and traditional, leaving listeners
feeling energized and intrigued, anticipating her next brilliant
musical move.
