Davy SpillaneBorn in 1959 in Dublin, Davy Spillane has been playing music ever since he was 12 years old. Travelling all over Ireland to perform at festivals, he met up with piping masters and learned fast. In the 70's Davy served an apprenticeship with Dan Dowd and Johnny Burke as a pipemaker. Learning from the masters, Davy now makes his own pipes and whistles by hand to create the sound he desires and to have complete control over the creative process. As a member of the band, Moving Hearts, Davy soon began to write his own music and develop the style of traditional and modern Celtic music he's known for today. After signing with Tara, an Irish label in 1988, he produced several albums, including "Atlantic Bridge," "Pipedreams," and "Out of the Air Shadow Hunter." During this time, Davy also formed the Davy Spillane Band who performs on many of his albums and toured all over the world. In 1992, the piper settled in Liscannor Co. Clare and recorded "A Place Among the Stones," which was then re-released in 1994 under the Columbia label for American consumption. His unique sound and excellent skill has earned him spots of great notoriety, as a soloist in "Riverdance," and the composer of several soundtracks including "Wuthering Heights," "Rob Roy" and "Michael Collins." In 2000, Davy started his own record label called Burrenstone Records. Over the years, he has also collaborated with many artists across the musical spectrum including, Brian Adams, Enya, Sinead O'Connor and Paul Winter, with whom he won a Grammy in 2000. Davy Spillane still resides in Liscannor Co. Clare, and continues to create Celtic masterpieces with the haunting, yet absolutely beautiful sounds of low whistles and Uilleann pipes. Discography
