Battlefield Band
Traditional Scottish Folk Music
Taking their name from the Glasgow suburb of Battlefield where they began, this group has been playing for over 30 years and has gained quite a reputation. Affectionately referred to by some of their fans as the Batties, this Scottish band has seen many changes in their members over the years. Currently the band includes founding member Alan Reid on vocals, keyboard and guitar, Mike Katz on pipes/whistles and bass guitar, Alasdair White on fiddle, whistle, banjo, bodhran and a variety of other instruments and Pat Kilbride on cittern, guitar and vocals.
The band has created their own variety of traditional Scottish music by including the synthesizer and a variety of other, more modern instruments to round out their sound. The band goes under the banner of 'Forward With Scotland's Past' which is a good way to describe the group itself. They have stayed in touch with the traditional music but are not about to limit themselves to any particular sound for good.
Some more recent albums include Time & Tide, Nightingale Lane, Happy Daze and Out for the Night. The band has toured widely and has been to New Zeland, Italy, Uzbekistan, Hong Kong and many other places. Some older albums include There's A Buzz, Anthum For The Common Man and Home Ground.
